![]() Robin Robin's earliest childhood memory is when she discovered her artistic talent at the age of four with a blue ballpoint pen and her mother's white leather chair. Okay, so maybe her mom didn't view the chair as the large empty canvas that Robin did, but that was just the beginning of her artistic career!
She continued to draw on any and all surfaces that begged to be covered with her artistic renderings seeing, as she did, any plain, undecorated surface as a blank canvas. Not just limiting herself to the brown paper bag book covers of her classmates, she enjoyed drawing many character requests (ex.Garfield, Snoopy) on their skin with, you guessed it, a ball point pen! They all thought she should become a tattoo artist at the age of nine---kids, what do they know!
Over the years she dabbled in several other mediums as well--water colors, airbrushing, tie-dying--and in the process discovered her knack for portraits, being dubbed the "human photo copy machine" by her peers.
Robin's high school art teacher recognized her raw, natural talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in art. Her teacher submitted her portfolio with two recommendations from the art department to a local college, which at the time had one of the top ten art programs in the United States. Robin had no idea her teacher had nominated her for a fully-paid art scholarship and was shocked to learn she had won it.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective, Robin was not able to take advantage of the scholarship. Down but not out, Robin focused her energy on "growing up and getting a job". Having settled down, it was during this more traditional phase in her life that she once again rediscovered her passion for art. She started to design body art for her husband as well as herself, and this process sparked an intense interest and respect for one of the world's oldest art forms.
Robin has since decided to turn this interest into a career and is currently apprenticing at our fine establishment. She has already had two of her designs tattooed and has been diligently practicing her technique while developing and honing her skill. So please join me in welcoming Robin to our tattoo family!
